Sculpted Cakes by Doolang Design
A lifelong love of baking led me into sculpting the cakes, below. This first one was made in the early 80s for my Aunts Shower. We were like brother and sister growing up so I really wanted to do something special for her. Tulips were her favorite flower and also the theme for her shower. So I thought can I make a Tulip Cake 2 feet by 3 feet tall?
Intertwined Dessert Island Palm Trees
Over a decade elapsed before I was to design and make another Sculpted Cake. This one was made even more extraordinary with Caramel Beach, Chocolate Trunk and Mint Palm Fronds. I wrote in the sand with my finger to give it that day at the beach touch. The trees were 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
Strawberry Poppy Truffle Cake
This cake is pure decadence containing 2 dozen eggs, a gallon of milk, 3 or 4 pounds of chocolate, a couple pounds of butter and 2 pounds of strawberries. The filling was a mixture of creme brulee pudding and truffle filling I made from scratch with Ghiradelli chocolate. It is 18 inches across and 6 inches deep. The petals are sculpted into opposing curves.
Red Convertible Cake
This was for my Gramma's 80th birthday. She repeatedly had me promise I was going to get her a red convertible when I grew up. I finally came through for this member of the Red Hat Society. The car was made of five layers and stood 8 inches tall by 22 inches long by 10 inches wide.
